Street Light Series

I am fascinated by blending of trees and lights on the urban roads I travel on. A yellow light flashes briefly in front of a yellow tree and I wonder, “Did I just see the tree’s heart?” As I have continued the series I see how just how fleeting each moment is. Though I take the same roads to work each day, stopping at the same lights and seeing the same trees, I am continuously discovering new compositions which catch a strange symmetry or an odd integration of tree and light. Another morning the same place will be transformed by weather, light and season. While most of my commute is filled with mundane and artless views, this practice of observation has opened my eyes to moments of magic where an underlying beauty is briefly exposed.
